Whether an original tune, a driving barn-burner, some roots-rock or one of many Grateful Dead covers, their music is super-high-energy with tight harmonies, clever arrangements, and grooves that make you wanna bust out those dancin' shoes.
THE WHOLE STORY...Kim and Jason, a multi-award-winning duo, have a musical connection that is undeniable, and have been captivating audiences for almost 20 years...not only with their unique sound, but with the heart and soul that lies behind every tune they play. Kim and Jason met in Atlanta, GA during the mid-'90s. She was a veteran performer in musical theater and he was a drummer playing with various groups in the local blues, folk, and jam-band scene. They both ended up in the same band (Kim as a back-up vocalist and Jason on drums) and started hanging out between gigs playing guitars and singing Neil Young tunes. Inspired by the pure sound of their harmonies and frustrated with hectic city life, they decided to abandon their current directions and head to the Pacific Northwest to try something new. They performed as an acoustic duo in the coffee shops and bars of Port Angeles, WA as Tongue & Groove and were an immediate hit. T&G eventually added other members, went electric, and evolved into one of the Olympic Peninsula’s favorite bands, releasing four CDs and playing everything from late-night Grateful Dead-esque jams in local bars to the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle.
Over the course of five years, T&G’s gig schedule became too busy for some of the members working full-time jobs and the band’s momentum quickly waned. With the confidence and experience gained from fronting a successful band and hungry to keep performing, Kim and Jason began exploring a more acoustic sound with banjo and guitar as the main instrumentation. The discovery of contemporary old-time influenced artists like Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, Be Good Tanyas, and The Reeltime Travelers, inspired their new direction and Deadwood Revival was born.After two highly acclaimed CDs (the self-titled Deadwood Revival and This Old World), a win at Northwest String Summit, and a non-stop itinerary throughout the western states and even a cross-country tour, they re-upped their Tongue & Groove bass player, Ches Ferguson, added fiddler Julie Campbell to the mix, and for several years played hundreds upon hundreds of festivals, events, and concerts throughout Washington, Oregon, and California and released a third CD...a live recording entitled Sat 7:30. The foursome capped their musical association with an encore performance at Dead On the Creek after deciding to go on separate paths.
Their newest project, Joy in Mudville, brings bassist Paul Stehr-Green into the fold, adding his Motown-influenced bass lines and voice to their impeccable harmonies. And, with Terry Smith or Mike Echternkamp behind the drum kit, the dance grooves are unresistable!
