A variety of anchoring situations are presented to cruisers in the Salish Sea. This presentation covers some of them. Familiar and backup gear that a cruiser trusts and can handle is essential, once away from the common anchorages and the light air months. Not focused on anchor choice but on anchoring options, this talk and discussion is for those who are considering extending their anchoring methods, such as anchoring under sail. Each cruiser must become skilled with their own boat and gear, so “the right way” will be among the ways that you find works for you.

Cody Harris

I'm an engineless sailing aficionado, and have spent the last two summers cruising the Salish Sea in our home designed, home built, mostly enginless 29 foot cutter rigged sailboat.

David Patterson

David is a retired 67-year-old who has been sailing in the San Juan and Gulf Islands since 2012. An intermediate sailor, he took up sailing in 2007 and has since cruised nine months a year since 2012. He challenges himself to cruise as much as possible under sail.
