A presentation celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic River Act of 1968.
Fifty years ago, Congress passed a historic piece of legislation which created Wild and Scenic Rivers in the United States.
"Selected rivers in the United States are preserved for possessing outstandingly remarkable scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and wildlife, historic, cultural, or other similar values. Rivers, or sections of rivers, so designated are preserved in their free-flowing condition and are not dammed or otherwise impeded."
The initiative was proposed by Frank Church of Idaho and signed into law by President Johnson.
In the past several years, I have run many of the 208 rivers with the Wild & Scenic designation and I have a fantastic collection of photo's, video's and stories from those adventures.
A one hour presentation - partly to entertain - partly to inform on the importance of preserving these national treasures. The rivers I will highlight include:
Rogue River in Oregon
McKenzie River in Oregon
Deschutes River in Oregon
Colorado River in AZ
Owyhee River in Idaho
Buffalo River in Arkansas
Flathead River in Montana
Snake River in Wyoming
